Tom Baumeister’s son, Jordan, died of cancer on Jan. 16. Baumeister decided to honor his son by having his portrait and The Beatles’ lyrics tattooed on his forearm.
Some write of their Valentine’s Day love on cards to their beaus, while others express through sweet, tasty treats.And yet others still express it on their own bodies.for Clifton Heights resident Marge Shields, 45, that expression began soon after her first marriage ended in 2004.A small red heart outlined with a pair of black wings is tattooed on the back of her right shoulder. it served as a reminder, she said, that she still had hope in the future.“I knew (the marriage) was kind of done with, but like I said, I still believed in love,” Shields said. “I knew being single again was going to be tough, so I got that to remind myself that I still believed in that.”Body art love affairHer first tattoo spawned a fascination with love-themed body art.Five years after her father, Thomas Cancrow, died at the age of 72, Shields received her second tattoo: A silver Hershey’s kiss, with the word “Dad” written in blue ink on the candy’s white ribbon.The tattoo represented her memory of her father: A sweet man with a love of family and candy, she said.Told by his doctors to abstain from sugary items due to health reasons, Shields said her father secretly indulged his sweet tooth when he ran errands for his wife of 48 years. Evidence of his sugary habit was found when Shields and her mother, Marian, climbed into her parent’s Honda Accord and found a stash of candy wrappers stuffed into the crevice of the passenger’s seat.
