Lint Alert – Install Peace Of Mind

We are all familiar with the term dryer lint but have you heard of a relatively new device known as Lint Alert? this nifty little invention warns you of restricted air flow in the dryer before it has an opportunity to cause a fire resulting in loss of life or personal property. Statistics confirm that over forty dryer fires are reported every day so this is not something you should take lightly.

As a retired firefighter I can tell you from first hand experience that the appliance which many people depend on and take for granted can quickly become a family’s worst nightmare when preventative maintenance is not followed.

I, along with some of you reading this can remember the days when a family’s laundry was hung outside on a clothes line in the fresh air and sunshine to dry. I can recall more than a few times running outside to help my mom grab the clothes off the line before a rain shower hit. Today however, most homes have a clothes dryer which has become the modern standard. And though it certainly costs more to dry the laundry using electricity or natural gas, the convenience and speedier drying time is a welcome trade-off for most people.

There are a few quick and simple steps you can take to help minimize the energy costs of your dryer. first and foremost you should clean the dryer lint trap after every load of clothes. this should become second nature to you, so much so that you don’t even have to think about it. Simply taking a few seconds to do this will save you in several ways.

  • Your clothes dry quicker = saves time
  • Shorter drying time = saves money on utility costs
  • Less wear and tear = saves money on repairs

Another dryer maintenance tip that you want to be aware of also concerns the lint screen. if you are one who uses fabric dryer sheets to soften, freshen and remove static from your laundry, this is even more important for you. Every other month you should wash the lint screen with warm soapy water to remove any film that tends to build up on the screen mesh. Dryer sheets, while great for what they were intended, tend to leave a film over time that can diminish air flow.

In addition to implementing the above maintenance measures I would also suggest installing a highly acclaimed newcomer to the market known as Lint Alert. Lint Alert is a unique monitoring device which measures the airflow in the dryer vent system, alerting you to a problem through warning lights and an audible alarm when airflow becomes dangerously restricted. making use of a small onboard computer, Lint Alert takes a like new reading when first installed and then calculates air flow restriction based on that initial reading held in memory. each time you clean your whole vent exhaust system out, you simply recalibrate Lint Alert to store a new reading for comparison.

Unfortunately, no matter how faithful you are to keep the lint screen clean, it simply will not keep all the lint from passing through the screen and onward into the exhaust vent. Roughly twenty percent of the lint ends up getting by the dryer lint trap. Over time the lint can catch on the walls of the vent and exhaust tubing, continuing to build up. Eventually, without cleaning lint will cause a blockage in the air flow which in turn will decrease dryer efficiency and possibly lead to overheating and lint being blown back into the electrical elements resulting in a fire.

With a simple do-it-yourself install, Lint Alert will give you the peace of mind in knowing that your family and your home are protected against a dryer related fire incident. Lint Alert will let you know that there is a possible problem so you can address it before it becomes a bigger problem. Lint Alert has received several awards since its release for product design and effectiveness. it is well worth the small investment.

One of the great design features is a pass through plug that is built into Lint Alert. most laundry rooms are small and therefore do not usually have more than one outlet. for this reason, the designers built Lint Alert in such a way that you don’t lose a needed electrical outlet. an added feature is the blue night lighting that comes from the lettering on the device. all in all Lint Alert is a quality product that your home should not be without.

Over 15,000 homes are damaged or destroyed each year as a result of dryer related fires. these fires can smolder for hours and often go undetected till it is too late. when you install Lint Alert you can rest easier knowing that your family and your possessions now have an added layer of protection.
