Katharine McPhee performs the clubby “Touch Me” in new SMASH promo

Last month I reviewed the pilot episode of NBC’s upcoming musical-drama Smash, scoring it a glowing 4.5/5. The series won’t officially premiere until February 6th, but NBC have released a new promo clip to further hype up the future ratings winner.

In this new 1:00 promo, the gorgeous Katharine McFlawlessPhee performers a new Ryan Tedder written-and-produced song called “Touch Me”, and if you thought that Smash was all about campy Broadway numbers and jazzy show tunes, then think again.

“Touch Me” is total top forty club-pop at its finest, with a huge vocal from McPhee over a booming dance beat. It’s sexy and bold, and shows that Smash isn’t just trying to appeal to the Queens and Broadway lovers — this is some real hip contemporary ish!

I didn’t expect this from Smash, and I love that the show is keeping me on my toes. I’m also shaking and crying in anticipation for the first official soundtrack release.

If you haven’t seen the pilot episode yet, it’s currently available for free download on iTunes for those of you in the States. For the rest of us, you’ll have to go through the usual illegal channels to get it.

Check out “Touch Me” below.
