Attendees at the Eastern Ohio Art Guild “Crazy for Chocolate” fundraiser Thursday evening proved once again that chocolate is really good, judging from all the smiling faces in the room upstairs at Theo’s Restaurant.

Mike Shepard, president of the EOAG, welcomed everyone to the sixth annual event, the guild’s primary fundraiser.

Chocolate is more than a rich, delectable calorie-laden dessert. it is said to have some medicinal purpose. it supposedly activates endorphins which are theorized to be the brain chemicals that make the consumer feel happy and content. and most people thought they just enjoyed the taste.

The aroma of chocolate permeated the room drawing the crowd to tables covered with platters of mouth-watering candy, cookies and cupcakes, donated by EOAG members and friends.

The displays offered more than a dozen varieties of the creamy concoctions, from chocolate covered strawberries and white choco-cran-almond drops to fudge-topped sandies, devil’s food cupcakes and chocolate almond truffles. all that happiness in one room was too much to ignore. A glass of wine or a cup of coffee complimented each bite.

A silent auction gave patrons a chance to bid on two original paintings, two ceramic mobiles, three decorated wreaths, a photo of an idyllic outdoor scene, a really interesting carved limestone fish, a lovely vase, a gift basket, pottery making lessons, a free art lesson, a great assortment of other items and many gift certificates from local businesses.

Kudos to Master of Ceremony Chris Stotler who managed to describe many of the silent auction items over the din of conversations.

Tickets were available to win — what else — a box of scrumptious chocolates. Winners were Rosetta Blackwood, Dama Ferguson, Andrea Miller and Bonnie Perkins.

Shepard said he was pleased with the attendance and announced a new program sponsored by the organization, the Student Art Sponsorship Program will promote student art in Guernsey and surrounding counties,” he said. “More information will be forthcoming.”
