Ceramic Decals

Ceramic Decals

Ceramic decals have been used for decades to improve the value of ceramic products. Painting by hand using colored glazes (glaze) is more expensive and production rates are much slower. However, the May issue of ceramics more valuable than decaled.

Labels can be produced by screen printing or lithography, the former is more expensive. Screen printing allows heavy deposits of color.

The process for making a decal oxides is to add color to dry solvents and binders to form an ink. Low melting frits can be integrated into the ink to ensure that the label will sink into the glaze during cooking. The colors are printed individually or screen printing of each color on a paper label. A layer of coating is applied to the leaf stickers printed before the final drying of the sheets of stickers.

The color separations are used more. For fine china, seven assists in the process of screen printing is often necessary to obtain the new. Richard Wasowski, an old friend of mine (Dona't call a "Dick, a" please) wrote an article for Industry Ceramics Magazine (I was the editor of this magazine) in the digital processing of the decal. This process will probably not completely replace the most recent old methods. Go to http://www.ceramicindustry.com/CDA/ArticleInformation/features/BNP__Features__Item/0, 2710,80851,00. Html.

Oh, you're back!

Decals are usually printed in large sheets. A worker cuts the leaves and the individual images are placed in water (usually with a wetting agent), where they are absorbed by another worker until the decal slides off the paper and puts it in ceramics.

He or she then squeegees the water ensuring that the label is placed correctly in the property and there are no bubbles trapped under the decal. The decal is dry, usually outdoors, then fired in a cycle of 1-3 hours.

Calco is a low-loss process. If a mistake on the decal after firing ceramics in general, should be discarded. It may not be profitable to continue the processing of a ceramic piece that you know to be sold as seconds.

Today, enamel and precious metals have been incorporated as images.

This saves two additional shots if added enamels and precious metals. If the precious metal is added separately, still has a shot. This can be very profitable. On one hand, we do not lose gold or enamel, or do you have that much concern for environmental considerations.
